Jann Griffiths has been an active traveler and adventurer since her first airplane ride in 1954, when moving to Germany with her military family. As an “Army Brat” she moved every two to three years. She returned to Germany in 1963, on the USS Buckner, which was a week-long transatlantic adventure. Though moving so frequently as a young child was not always fun, it proved to be the start of a life long adventure.
In 1976, she join the US Navy and continued the military traveling life. The Navy even advertised that it wasn’t just a job, it was an adventure. Upon leaving the military, the day before Veterans Day, Jann studied at the University of Maine and received her degree. She started her 24 year career with the Department of Veterans Affairs, and moved to Nashville, TN where she lived for seven years. In 1994, she received her masters degree in Health Care Administration and moved to Denver, CO. Though her tenure in Denver was only supposed to be for a year, she realized she had found her home at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. She lives in a charming little Victorian home with her husband and cats.
Since her VA retirement in 2010, Jann continues to travel and enjoys a private part-time massage and aromatherapy practice at Two Compassionate Hands Wellness, Inc.
When she isn’t hiking she now spends some of her time raising money and awareness for the Denver Fisher House, as she prepares for her 2012 thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail. You can follow along as she physically trains and logistically prepares for this 6 month adventure on the trail. Her AT pursuits can be found on Facebook/ATJann2012.
